About Our Curriculum

My Second Home Daycare’s curriculum engages children in developmentally appropriate activities that foster learning and personal growth. Children learn by doing!  Each day the children will explore through active and dramatic play, movement, building, hands-on art, reading, storytelling, science and math activities, and music.  These activities are designed to develop both fine and large motor skills, communication, problem solving, and creativity, as well as provide a strong foundation for later education.
My Second Home Daycare’s curriculum also fosters interpersonal skills such as sharing and helping through books, activities, and discussions.  Acceptance and awareness of diversity is also encouraged by the same means and also by the use of multi-cultural toys and learning aids.
My Second Home Daycare incorporates basic American Sign Language signs into its activities and routines.  Research has shown that children develop hand coordination earlier than they develop the complex vocal coordination necessary for speech.  Using sign language helps decrease frustration and tantrums. Parents are also provided with hand-outs showing these commonly used signs.
